Worldwide Brotherhood

I love skateboarding and I am not exactly sure why. All I know is that I am one of something like 20 million skateboarders who got pulled in and couldn't get out if they wanted to. Although many of my peers have left skateboarding in their adolescent I have not been able to shake it and am now like a grandpa, usually being the oldest guy out street skating, at the ripe old age of 28. While doing a crude google search of skateboarding I not only learned that there are 20 million in my clan, that something like 75% of them are between ages 13-18. I knew there were a lot of skaters and that skating gets lost on most people as they come into adulthood. Still I am astounded with the statistic as my vocation is to care for the 15 million rude, loud and obnoxious skaters. In all reality I do not draw lines in the sand over age...it wouldn't be very skaterboarder of me. The beauty of skating, which scratches the surface on the 'why', is that it breaks down barriers of race, religion, worldview, culture, age, gender, status, skill and the list goes on. It forms some sort of family. A dysfunctionally family no doubt, but still it is a family. This is where I come to serve and not be served. I want to live in the brotherhood, but not be idle to shine some light into some dark corners. I love skateboarding, but I think it is becoming less and less about the skateboarding.

Check out this skate video. It is a favourite of mine.
